"Slane Variations, composed in August 2022, consists of five short variations based on the Irish folk song Slane (circa 8th century) to which we sing "Be Thou My Vision". The first four variations each represent an individual 4-bar phrase of the tune while the fifth variation presents the entire hymn, bringing the piece to an exciting conclusion "High King of heaven, my victory won... Still be my vision, O ruler of all."
There are five verses to the song. Each movement of this suite takes its title from the text in the corresponding verse. The text of each verse drives the musical style used in each variation.
1. Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my Heart (duration: 1:20)
2. Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one (duration: 2:28)
3. Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight (duration: 1:18)
4. Riches I heed not, my Treasure Thou art (duration: 0:51)
5. High King of Heaven, my victory won (duration: 2:31)
Individual parts for low brass (baritones, trombones, euphonium, and tubas) are provided in their traditional treble clef transposition, as well as in bass clef concert pitch.
