This is a song written by Fanny Crosby using the pseudonym Grace J. Frances. The new musical setting by Gerry Shoults was written 1/1/82. There are four verses presented. Considering her blindness from an early age, the words have an additional meaning, both her physical need for guidance, but primarily her spiritual need. The third verse says "Hold thou my hand, the way is dark before me without the sunlight of thy face divine; But when by faith I catch it's radiant glory, what heights of joy what rapturous songs are mine".
