Ave Verum Corpus - Unity Series

Play Audio Track

Ave verum corpus (Hail, true body), (K 168) is a motet in D major composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1791. It is a setting of the Latin hymn Ave Verum Corpus. Mozart wrote it for Anton Stoll, a friend who was the church musician of St. Stephan in Baden bei Wien. The motet was composed for the feast of Corpus Christi; the autograph is dated 17 June 1791. It is scored for SATB choir, string instruments and organ.

This transcription is for Unity Series (small brass band). The key has been transposed to Db major to reduce the number of sharps required for the Bb and Eb transposing instruments.

Unity Series is scored for nine parts: 1st and 2nd cornets, 1st and 2nd horns, Baritone, Euphonium, Eb and Bb Bass, and Percussion. The horn parts are for Eb Alto horns. There are also parts included for Horns in F. The baritone, euphonium, and tuba parts are traditionally in transposed treble clef (for Bb instruments). Bass clef parts for these low brass instruments are provided as well (concert pitch).
